Ittikid - Overview
Magnolia PR: Biography for Ittikid Creator Melanie Miller

As a young girl growing up in Denmark and then California, it was Melanie Miller's desire to own her own business. Melanie's parents owned a toy manufacturing business where she contributed both creatively and managerially. From then on, the idea of working for herself was born. Inspired by her Scandinavian roots and motherhood, ittikid.com was launched in 2007. Ittikid, an online boutique featuring stylish clothes, décor, and accessories for children from preemie to age six, carries only pieces hand-selected by Melanie from Denmark and Sweden.
Before the creation of Ittikid, Melanie first ventured into business with her furniture store, Yolk, where she put her furniture design skills to work. Situated in the hip neighborhood of Silverlake in Los Angeles, Yolk allowed Melanie to show off her furniture creations as well of those of other local artists. In early 2007, wanting to move closer to relatives in Northern California, Melanie sold Yolk to another local entrepreneur. Soon she was inspired to start another venture when she fell in love with a Scandinavian shirt that wasn't available in the U.S. Coming up emptyhanded in her search for the simple shirt, she set out to provide U.S. shoppers with design-savvy Scandinavian brands for children and even adults, previously unavailable without making a trip overseas.
Ittikid.com provides a wide range of colorful, graphic-inspired and gender neutral clothing for fashionably-minded moms, dads, and kids from Brooklyn to LA. In just a few short months after launching, ittikid has garnered the attention of Daily Candy, Urban Baby, and other influential media clamoring for original looks in children's fashion.
A few of the popular clothing lines carried by ittikid include: Smafolk, a Danish collection of brightly colored, modern graphic pieces; Plastisock, a Swedish clothing line consisting of colorful patterns for boys and girls; Danefae, another Danish collection featuring playful prints on onesies, t-shirts and more; and Ej Sikke Lej, a Danish collection of t-shirts, dresses, trousers, featuring fun animal prints.
Melanie gracefully juggles her duties as both entrepreneur and mother, and ittikid is now a family venture. Her mother helps with day to day tasks while her father handles the Scandinavian vendors. Her eldest son and his playmates influence what designs and styles make the ittikid cut.
"Just being a mom gives a lot of insight on what is practical and what is not. I love that all the clothes that ittikid carries is really meant for fun and play," said Melanie, who holds a BFA from California College of the Arts in San Francisco. "It is not precious or easy to ruin … it is colorful, bright, durable, and sparks the imagination."
Melanie currently resides in Santa Rosa, CA, with her husband, Hus, a fellow entrepreneur, and their two young sons, toddler Oliver and newborn Gus.
